Phone Down
Phone Down has no account, no server, no ads and no analytics, and it never uses the internet. Phones talk to each other directly over the Wi-Fi or hotspot you're on.
What the app stores
The name you choose, your usual drink, a random player ID, and your last 50 rounds: when they were played, your time and place, and the name of whoever paid.
On your Wi-Fi
When you host a table, your phone announces it to every device on the same network with your name, your drink and the table code.
Everyone at the table sees each other's names, drinks, whether their phone is face down, and when they picked it up. The invite QR code contains the host phone's address on the local network.
Table traffic isn't encrypted or password-protected, so someone else on the same network could join. Play on networks you trust.
Camera and motion
The camera is used only to scan a table's QR code, on your phone. The motion sensor is used only during a round, to notice when you pick up your phone, and nothing is saved.
Permissions
Wi-Fi and local network: to find and join tables.
Camera: to scan QR codes.
Vibration and keeping the screen on: during a round.
Sharing
"Share the tab" makes an image with everyone's names, drinks, times and who pays, and sends it through Android's share sheet to the app you pick. Phone Down doesn't share, sell or send data any other way.
Deleting your data
Change your name and drink in the app. There isn't an in-app way to clear your history; uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android settings, deletes everything.
Children
Phone Down isn't aimed at children.
Phone backups
If you've turned on backup to your Google account in Android's settings, Android may include Phone Down's saved data in that backup. The backup belongs to your Google account and isn't sent to me.
Changes to this policy
If the app starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date above will change.
